This spring has been an exciting time for the LSS Treatment Foster Care Program as four (4) foster care youth will be graduating from High School. To add to the excitement, all four youth plan to further education or have already enlisted in the military!
One of the youth plans to attend college in Rapid City in the fall. This youth currently has a job in a restaurant and plans to continue with the job to assist with college expenses.
Two of the youth have similar plans and will attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls starting in the fall. Both currently have employment and intend to continue with those employers.
The fourth youth has enlisted in the Army National Guard and in June will be starting basic training in South Carolina. Upon completion of basic training he intends to enroll in secondary education.
All four of these youth have done the things necessary to prepare themselves for these opportunities. Along with graduating from high school this spring, they have held employment which has provided more than just money. These jobs have taught them skills, such as time and money management as well as interpersonal skills that will serve them well in their futures.
As with most youth coming of age, there have been dedicated adults that have helped make them successful. For these youth that has included not only family, but dedicated social workers and foster parents who have provided them the support and opportunities to be successful.
All of LSS wishes them well as they begin new chapters in their lives. Please join us in extending our heartfelt congratulations to our graduates…We are so incredibly proud of them!
