We were fortunate to have a youth group from West Nidaros Lutheran Church of Crooks come not once but twice this summer to perform service projects for LSS Childcare & Education Services at Southern Hills United Methodist Church. The group was led by Jessi Rakness, Director of Youth and Family Ministry for West Nidaros. Along with some deep cleaning and landscaping, they carried the new, and very heavy, railroad ties for installation around the playground area.
The service projects were part of the West Nidaros Summer Stretch ministry for 6th through 12th grade students on Wednesdays during June and July. Students spend their mornings working on a service project and their afternoons having fun at Wild Water West. Summer Stretch gives the students the opportunity to make friends, make a difference and have fun during the summer!
LSS Childcare & Education Services at Southern Hills includes Infant and Toddler Enrichment for children ages four weeks to three years, with full-time schedules available. Preschool offers a progressive curriculum that builds on strengths of students from three to five years old, with full- and half-day schedules available. After-school programs are open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade from the time school is dismissed until 6 pm. The summer program offers all day care for after-school children.
LSS would like to thank the students in the West Nidaros Summer Stretch ministry, Jessi Rakness, and the parents who provided transportation and worked alongside the youth. We hope they consider LSS in their volunteer services next summer!
