M.A.D. = Make A Difference!
For more than two decades, USA WEEKEND and Points of Light have joined together to bring Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Make A Difference Day is celebrated annually and takes place this coming Saturday, October 25. The goal of the day is to connect people with opportunities to serve, increase the strength of communities and promote civic engagement.
In Sioux Falls, the Helpline Center is coordinating a Make A Difference Day activity in partnership with the Center for Active Generations to Rake the Town. While volunteer registration has closed for this event, there are still plenty of opportunities for people to go Make A Difference!
A quick glance of volunteer opportunities in Sioux Falls yielded over 300 options. Everything from driving cancer patients to treatment appointments to leading a girl scout troop to painting the nails of an older adult who lives in a nursing home are included on the list.
Of course, we need to mention that LSS always has a need for volunteers! LSS is very excited to launch a new opportunity for volunteers – watch the blog for more information on a new program starting in January, 2015 (HINT: Volunteers in this program will serve an increasingly large population of Sioux Falls residents)!
This week though, we hope you find time to do something, anything, to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We promise it will be fun!
