“He makes me happy.” One mentor and his story.

Happy, kind and athletic are three words Holden, a soon-to-be sixth grader, used to describe his mentor, Greg Jasmer. The two share a unique bond that has grown over meeting with each other for since Holden was in Kindergarten.

“Holden and I have grown up together,” said Greg. “I was not married or had children when we first started. As my family has grown, he has also become part of it. It has meant a lot to be able to spend time with Holden.”

Greg, who is the Chief Marketing Officer at DAKOTACARE, has spent an hour on most Mondays the past five years playing sports. The two share a mutual love for basketball and just generally being active.

“I have gained as much from mentoring as what I have given,” said Greg. “It helps me be a better father … for being such a small time commitment, the gains are immeasurable.”

Holden, who is a quiet young man, agreed. He has enjoyed his time with Greg and is looking forward to continuing their relationship at Memorial Middle School this year. Simply put, Holden summarized their relationship by saying, “He makes me happy.”
