SIOUX FALLS—Each year, Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota recognizes a distinguished volunteer, a corporate partner, a community partner and a congregational partner in honor of outstanding service and support to LSS during 2013.
Lutheran Social Services honored Falls Community Health of Sioux Falls (FCH) as the LSS 2013 Distinguished Community Partner of the Year. FCH has been a vital partner of LSS Refugee & Immigration Services for more than fifteen years as the primary health care provider for all newly arriving refugees. Following the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines, they provide initial screenings, physicals, dental screenings and mental health screenings with care and concern for the newly arriving refugees’ diverse needs and backgrounds. They provide excellent medical care through the use of interpreters and outreach workers in a timely manner.
LSS Refugee & Immigration Services’ goal is to help all clients reach economic self-sufficiency as quickly as possible. The excellent care that the medical staff and outreach workers provide helps LSS meet the US State Department Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) guidelines and help the clients get their health needs met quickly.
FCH also assists refugees to complete health paperwork at the time of their applications for permanent residency in both Sioux Falls and Huron. FCH goes above and beyond the requirements of the CDC and ORR to provide professional and affordable services. The sliding scale fee structure is a great benefit to many in the refugee community.
“Without the vital partnership with Falls Community Health, our refugee clients would not be able to reach their employment goals and become self-sufficient in a timely manner,” says Oldenkamp. “The health care that Falls Community Health provides is a critical part of the program’s success and continues to have a significant impact on the lives of those we serve.”
Thank you to all the staff at Falls Community Health!
