Last week, over 30 mentors and students in our USucceed program took in a class at a new canvas painting business in Sioux Falls. This was the first experience with a painting class for many (although one match has done a few on their own!), and the results were great!
Each month, students in USucceed are invited to participate in an activity night. This month, it was painting. Last month, it was learning about opportunities at Southeast Tech and Career Tech High School. Next month the group will help at the Feeding South Dakota Backpack Program. And after that, mock interviews with businesses and organizations that hire high school students. At LSS, we work hard to find the right mix of fun and new experiences, opportunities for college and career planning and service learning activities for our USucceed matches.
In addition to the monthly activities, each match meets on a regular basis. Most of our 71 USucceed matches go out to lunch once a week.
We recently surveyed students in the program, and all reported that they enjoyed having a mentor! Due to the popularity of the program among students, we have a waiting list of kids who want a mentor. If this program sounds interesting to you, please contact us at mentoring@LssSD.org.
