The students of the First Reformed LSS After-School and Summer Program will serve as volunteers on the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Students will make a difference in their community by sharing their time and many talents, joining hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country in volunteer service. Students planned a day of service to honor the memory and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students brainstormed ways that they can positively impact their community and decided to do three different projects. They will be making dog bones and fleece blankets for the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society and will be creating treat bags to say “thank you” to local snow plow drivers.
Students in all LSS Childcare & Education programs participate in monthly service learning projects so the students have plenty of practice in volunteer service to others. Celebrating MLK Day of Service gives them the opportunity to highlight this important component of their after school learning and fun.
