May National Foster Care Month – Continued!

Since May is right around the corner and it is National Foster Care Month, LSS Foster Care Programs want to take a moment to say a Big Thank You to all of our wonderful and dedicated Foster Families!

LSS is blessed to have 16 licensed Foster Families in the Rapid City area and 10 licensed (and 4 soon to be licensed) Foster Families in the Sioux Falls area.  These families have opened their homes and hearts to over 60 children and youth this past year. It is amazing to think about how many meals have been cooked, how many school conferences have been attended, how many loads of laundry have been done, how many tears have been dried, how many family visits have been made and how many monthly reports have been written.  It is all in a day’s work for our families!

There certainly is a need for more foster homes to serve children with specialized and treatment issues in the state of South Dakota. You may think it takes a perfect parent to do all this but Foster Families and Foster Care staff would tell you – you don’t have to be perfect to be a foster or adoptive family. All you need is to have a caring heart for children and youth and a safe and nurturing home environment!  Plus a good sense of humor doesn’t hurt!  Kids can be pretty accepting if a foster parent isn’t perfect – especially if they know you truly care for and respect them!
