“Week of the Young Child” here at Lutheran Social Services was certainly an exciting celebration. Read on for a quick recap of the fun and exciting events.
On Monday we enjoyed the children’s choices for career day. We are educating future doctors, police officers, veterinarians, soldiers, engineers, musicians, ballerinas, princesses, athletes, archeologists, zookeepers, teachers and many more. We were thrilled to have some great role models from our community come in to talk about what they do and to show the kids how important learning is.
On Tuesday our morning was filled with moms! The kids brought their mother’s in to enjoy some muffins and there were many smiling faces. Perhaps some of the grins were caused by the silliness of kids wearing crazy socks. Mismatched, tall, short, colorful and rolled up socks made for a very silly day. Tuesday ended with some fun activities and an open house. Families toured the facility and enjoyed activities that highlighted the learning and fun that happen at Southern Hills every day. Many of us guessed at the numbers for the estimation jars but our winners came very close. There were 96 crayons and the winner guessed 98! There were 155 legos in the jar and the winner guessed 150. We have some pretty smart kids around here!
Students enjoyed some fun and messy science in one of the After-School Program rooms.
Wednesday was a special day for the grandparents. Many, many grandparents joined the little ones for “Goodies with Grandparents.” The room was filled with cookies, juice and hugs. The kids were also sporting their wackiest outfits that day which made for some funny photo opportunities.
The dads joined their pajama clad youngsters for “Donuts with Dad’s” on Thursday morning. Smiling faces and slippered feet skipped down the hallway all day long.
Finally, on Friday we finished off our amazing week with our big parade! The weather didn’t exactly cooperate so we circled the gym with our noise makers and decorations. The kids enjoyed the music and movement and our visitors got some great photos of the parade and kids wearing their favorite colors. This was a great end to a great week.
We have to thank all of you that joined us to show your support of the amazing children that we are blessed to spend every day with. This is always an exciting week at Southern Hills and this year was the best one yet.
