Consider a New Year’s Goal to Impact Children Waiting for a Permanent Family

Here is a wish for a blessed and happy 2013! As you think about the year to come, make resolutions and set goals for yourself – consider how you can make an impact on the life of a child who is waiting for a permanent family. Here are some ideas to consider:

 Learn about and advocate for foster children and youth.
 Keep the children who are in foster care and children who are waiting to be adopted, both domestically and internationally, in your daily prayers.
 Be a supportive church family to foster and adoptive families in your church. Check to see how families who are new to foster care are doing; provide meals for an adoptive family who just brought home their child.
 Donate your time to support children in foster care such as making life book pages, making quilts, putting together hygiene kits for new foster children.
 Become a mentor for a child in foster care.
 Spearhead or assist with a fund raiser for a foster care organization, for a family that is adopting a child internationally or other another related program.
 Donate a financial gift to an organization that works with foster care or adoption.
 Become a respite care provider for families who have adopted a child with special needs or for foster children.
 Provide encouragement to youth who are alumni from the foster care system – who are living in the community independently or attending college.
 Consider becoming an adoptive parent to a child or children internationally or domestically from foster care.
 Consider becoming a foster family.

These are just a few ideas to consider. For more information on how you can change a life of a child in foster care, no matter how much time you have, visit Foster Care Month at http://www.fostercaremonth.org and click on “change a lifetime menu”.
