Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are synonymous with Thanksgiving celebrations as turkey and football. While many people take time during the holiday season to think of others, #GivingTuesday is a new coordinated effort to get people to care about making a difference.
Presented across the country, #GivingTuesday was founded by a group of corporate and nonprofit organizations, including United Way, Simon Malls, Groupon, JP Morgan Chase and Red Cross. The idea is for individuals, families, businesses and communities to take action when it comes to giving back. Whether it is baking cookies for a neighbor, choosing to volunteer or forgoing gift buying and instead donate the money to a nonprofit, any way people decide to make giving part of their holiday routine is the goal of #GivingTuesday.
Please do your part by letting others know how you give back to your community through your social media accounts, and be sure to include #GivingTuesday. At the end of the day, check back to see how people across the country are choosing giving this holiday season.
If you would like to give back more, please consider making Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota your nonprofit of choice. There are many opportunities to make an investment of your time or money that will create meaningful impact on people across the state.
