Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all the blessings that God has graciously given us, especially that of family. For many that includes becoming a family through adoption. There are many people touched by adoption – children, birth/first parents and families, and adoptive families.
Did you know that:
- There are approximately 6 million persons in the U.S. who are adopted;
- Americans adopt about 130,000 children a year;
- Over 110,000 children are waiting in the U.S. foster care system for permanent, loving families; and
- World Orphans organization estimates that there are 153,000,000 orphans worldwide?
An LSS adoptive parent shared her story of thanksgiving and adoption. As she has reflected on the adoption of her daughter she has seen God’s hand in the whole process and in the relationships that have been developed; the most special relationship being the one they have with their daughter’s birth mother. She has such a thankful attitude toward the birth mother. She says, “She gave our daughter life, she honored me with the gift of our child – we are forever connected through our hearts. Even though we don’t see each other often, we will always be family!”
The blessings of adoption are wonderful! This Thanksgiving, as you reflect on all your blessings, consider adoption. There are children who need permanent loving homes in the U.S. and in other countries who would be thankful for you!
