In honor of National Adoption month this November, the Adoption Program of Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota (LSSSD) is hosting a “Touched By Adoption” event. We are requesting any families who have adopted through LSSSD to share a family picture(s) which we can put on an Adoption timeline from the earliest to the most recent adoption. We will post the pictures at our Center for Children and Youth building in Sioux Falls. The Adoption Program of LSSSD started in 1920 and has rich roots in the agency. We are hoping to get lots of pictures and have gotten off to a good start!
If you are an adoptive family through LSSSD we would love to include your family picture in the timeline. The picture can be emailed, scanned, or mailed (if mailed please include your address so we can return it!). Include names of your family members in the photo and the year of the adoption. Please send pictures in as soon as possible so we can start the timeline! If you know of any adoptive families through LSSSD – please extend the invitation to send pictures and join the celebration!
We will culminate the month with an Open House on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 4pm to 7pm with a program at 6:30pm and on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10am to noon so families can view the timeline and share in some celebration and refreshments. We will plan to have an activity for the children to make a Christmas ornament as a memento.
For more information or to send a picture of your family please contact Hayley Van Den Brink or Dede Mogck at 888-201-5061 or email at Hayley.Vandenbrink@lsssd.org or Dede.Mogck@lsssd.org . The address to mail is LSSSD – Adoption Program, 621 East Presentation Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
Please save the date and join us – more details to come!
National Adoption Month has been celebrated for 17 years. Every November, a Presidential Proclamation launches activities and celebrations to help build awareness of adoption throughout the nation. Thousands of community organizations arrange and host programs, events, and activities to share positive adoption stories, challenge the myths, and draw attention to the thousands of children in foster care who are waiting for permanent families.
